Descriptionde Ruyter, born in Cologne ca. 1580; died in the Hague, Dec. 28, 1663. Seated man with graying brown hair, moustache and Van Dyke beard, dressed in black gown with pleated white collar and lace trimmed cuffs; right sleeve has vertical bands of velvet(?). Man holds off-white gloves in left hand, which rests on green table, bottom right corner. Right hand on knee. Seated 3/4 view to right, face turned to observer, eyes looking forward. Column along right side painting.
