BiographyKawakita Kaho (川北霞峰, 1875–1940) was a Nihonga painter. He was born in Kyoto. His personal name was Gennosuke 源之助. He studied under Kōno Bairei (幸野楳嶺, 1844–1895) and Kikuchi Hōbun (菊地芳文, 1862–1918, see Entry 87). He displayed his artwork at the Bunten and Teiten exhibitions. He specialized in delicate yet powerful landscape paintings. He received the tokusen award at the Bunten exhibition. He was invited to join the Teiten Association, and he became a judge for their exhibitions. He also taught painting at Kyoto City School of Arts and Crafts for more than twenty years. He died in 1940 at the age of sixty-five.
