Hayashi Buntō (林文塘, 1882–1966) was a Nihonga painter. He was born in Kyoto. His personal name was Mitsusaburō 光三郎. He studied painting under Maekawa Bunrei 前川文嶺 (d. 1917) and Yamamoto Shunkyo 山元春挙 (1871–1933). He was particularly adept at landscape paintings. After entering his work into the Bunten exhibition (see Entry A2), he joined Iguchi Kashū 井口華秋 (d. 1930), Ikeda Keisen 池田桂仙 (d. 1931), and others in forming the Japanese Freedom Painting Group (Nihon Jiyū Gadan, see Entry D5), which directly opposed the Teiten exhibition. He travelled to China several times. He died in 1966 at the age of 84.
