Ōno Bakufū

BiographyŌno Bakufū (大野麦風, 1888–1976) was a painter. He was born in Tokyo. He studied Western-style painting under Nagahara Kōtarō 長原孝太郎and was active in such groups as the Hakuba-kai 白馬会 (see Entry D10), Pacific painting-kai 太平洋画会, and the Kofu-kai 光風会. After that, he switched to Nihonga painting and printmaking. He published "Dainippon Fish Art Book" 「大日本魚類画集」, a collection of prints that vividly depicts the ecology of fish in various parts of Japan. This work was a limited edition of 500 woodblock prints distributed to members. 72 copies of this series were published from 1937 to 1944, well representing his style. Person TypeIndividual
