Kubo Shunman

Japanese, 1757 - 1820
BiographyKubö Shunman along with being a leading ukiyo-e painter, print artist, and illustrator, was a poet and author. Although a pupil of Nahiko and Shigemasa, his art shows the strong influence of Torii Kiyonaga. His numerous surimono and paintings of beautiful women are superb as are his rare single sheet prints. The Michener Collection owns just a few prints by this fine artist. At least four illustrated books by Shunman have been identified dating from 1794 to 1810. (HAL)
