BiographyThe Reverend Nanrei Kobori was the 16th Abbot of Ryoko-in, Daitoku-ji, Kyoto. Born in Kyoto, 1918. Is the son of the 15th Abbot. He was granted his B.A. and Master’s degree in Buddhist and Western Philosophy from Otani, Japan’s oldest university. A leading student of the late Saisetsu Suzuki, as the only English-speaking Rinzai Zen Abbot, he perpetuates his teacher’s influence as an interpretor of Zen for Americans in Japan.
