Kurama near Kyoto) bends over the scroll being studied by his young pupil, Ushiwaka-maru (later the hero, Minamoto no Yoshitsune). Söjobo has flowing white eyebrows and beard, and wears the small cap of the yamabushi (mountaini warriors) and loose flowing brown-grey robe. The young boy has a green upper garment, repeating the green of the large crag and hanging vines in the background and the brighter green of the scroll-cover.
