BiographyBorn in Ötsu, Shiga prefecture. Given name Kin’emon. Studied in Kyoto with Nomura Bunkyö. Moved to Tokyo in 1885 to study with Mori Kansai. Judge and exhibitor in Bunten and Teiten. Later became a professor at Kyoto Specialist School of Painting and a founder of the modern Kyoto school of painters. Member of Imperial Art Committee and Imperial Fine Arts Academy.
