Kawai GyokudöJapanese, 1873 - 1957

Born in Aichi prefecture. Given name Yoshisaburö; also used the gö Gyokushü early in his career. Studied with Mochizuki Gyokusen and Köno Bairei in Kyoto and with Hashimoto Gahö in Tokyo. Exhibited Japanese-style paintings at Bunten and Teiten. Member of Imperial Fine Art Academy and Art Committee of the Imperial Household. Professor at Tokyo School of Fine Arts. Received Order of Cultural Merit in 1940.
