BiographyGladys Kukana Grace (1919-2013); master lauhala weaver; 2010 recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship Award. Also known as Aunty Gladys; raised in the town of Olelomoana on the South Kona coast of Hawaii Island; learned lauhala weaving from her maternal grandmother. Her family was known for light and dark contrast weaving known as anoni. Worked for 25 years as a sales clerk at the Pearly Harbor Navy Exchange. In 1997, with a student, Frank Masagatani, founded a weaving club, Ulana Me Ka Lokomaikai.
