DescriptionA squat, round sontainer with ringed foot; raised rim circumventing shoulder of cover and waist of body; and shallow circular disk on top. The overall ground is a smooth, lusterous black. The decorative motif, with low relief outlines and solid or minutely speckled areas of lighter and bronze-toned gold lacquer, is a clump of autumn florals such as chrysanthemums, maple leaves, pompas grass, buch clover, etc. The style of lacquer is named after the Kodaiji Zen temple of the Momoyama period, where many doors and other architectural elements exhibited such maki-e techniques and similar designs.
