Yamaguchi GenJapanese, 1896 - 1976

Yamaguchi Gen led a varied career before finding his calling in creative woodblock prints. His art owes its greatest debt to Koshiro Onchi and is almost always an abstraction in which every element is balanced exactly against another. Sometimes there is a vague suggestion of anunderlying image, but never enough to make an identification. His abstraction is usually named, but the idientification is totally personal.
