Maekawa SenpanJapanese, 1888 - 1960
Born on October 5, 1888, in Kyoto and moved to Tokyo in 1911, where he died on November 17, 1960, shortly after receiving his prize for the present print. Graduated from the Kansai Art Academy and was self-taught in printmaking. Made his living mostly as a successful illustrator but in his later years was able to devote more time to prints. His principal interests were people, prints, and visiting hot-spring resorts and folk festivals, probably in that order.
