Kobayakawa KiyoshiJapanese, 1889 - 1948

Born in Fukuoka. Art name Shiranui. Studied under Kaburaki Kiyokata. he entered nihonga style painting at the Teiten of 1924. He started to study woodblock prints from c. 1927. In 1930-31 he self-published the series of six beauty prints titled ‘Women’s manners of today’. In 1932 Hasegawa published ‘The mistress Okichi [of Townsend Harris]’. He collected ukiyo-e and studied pigments and colour-use. (The Female Image: 20th Century Prints of Japanese Beauties. Hotei Publishing, 2000).
