Tomioka EisenJapanese, 1864 - 1905
Born in Nagano prefecture. Given name Hidetarö. Went to Tokyo to study drafting ca. 1877. Employed from 1878 by Army Staff Office as a civilian. In 1882 began studying with Kobayashi Eitaku. Resigned army position to become full-time illustrator. Many illustrations of bijin-ga, customs, and warriors.
