Yamamoto Kanae1882 - 1946

Yamamoto Kanae was founder of the Japanese creative print movement and a very important figure in the history of the modern woodblock print. He was trained as a woodblock print engraver in the Western style, later graduating from the Tokyo Art School and studying for several years in Paris. His travel sketches thorughout Europe and Russia provided a source for his numerous landscapes and portraits done in Japan.
