Gotō Kyōu

Gotō Kyōu (後藤杏塢 , 1907–1973) was a Nihonga painter. He was born in Nagano Prefecture. He studied painting under Hashimoto Kansetsu (see Entry 11), and he became a member (inyū 院友) of the Japan Visual Arts Academy (Nihon Bijutsu-in, see Entry D1). Later, he studied under Maeda Seison (1885–1977) and adopted a modern style of painting similar to other, Tokyo-based painters. He died in 1973 at the age of 66.
