DescriptionAlthough the print does not list the names of particular actors, both characters are striking a Kabuki mie (bold pose) and Benkei is wearing the face paint of a Kabuki actor. Judging from the date of the print, this is likely a depiction of the actor Iwai Kumesaburo III as Ushiwakamaru (left) and the actor Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as Benkei (right) in the kabuki play "Kanjincho," performed at the Ichimura theater in 1859.
