DescriptionThese lei humu papa are derived from the Hawaiian flat feather lei style developed in the 19th century after the introduction of western hats, a time when featherwork was not restricted to only Hawaiian royalty. This particular style is the older style from the late 19th to the early 20th century as each feather is attached to the backing using three stitches per feather. The works are decorative and of a style that continues to today and evokes tratdional Hawai'i.On View
