DescriptionEach panel depicts a different occupation associated with temple life and maintenance. Right screen: (from right to left) 1) making wood veneer; 2) polishing a needle to finish it; 3) boiling ocean water for salt; 4) carrying charcoal (imported from Ohara, north of Kyoto); 5) binding a mat; 6) drilling holes in rosary beads. Left screen (right to left): 1) sguaring wood to prepare it for carving; 2) forging metal to make a machete; 3) a blind musician with helper carrying his biwa; 4) making a bow; 5) chiselling a Kannon; 6) preparing paper for handscrolls and album leafs.
